To shine a light on the UK's housing emergency, we opened a fictional lettings agency – Only Choice Lettings – in the heart of an unsuspecting suburban high street.
The campaign is part of a wider initiative by Shelter to lobby the government to make private renting safer and fairer by introducing reforms.
We shone a light on just some of the real stories reported to Shelter to raise awareness around the state of private renting in the UK. These real listings featured throughout a campaign that centred on a rogue estate agent, highlighting abusive landlords, asbestos ridden flats, rat infestations, lack of heating and many other unliveable conditions, where renter’s only other choice is to live on the streets. Beyond the fake estate agent, ads for the shady properties were listed on property websites, Instagram, and ran along legitimate property sections in various publications, from TimeOut to the Evening Standard.
